The Boreal Avian Modelling Centre (BAM) seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) to join our team at Biodiversity Pathways in collaboration with Dr. Erin Bayne at the University of Alberta and partners at Ducks Unlimited Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute. BAM is a collaborative, long-term, initiative that integrates big data in predictive species abundance models to support boreal bird conservation.

The successful applicant will be instrumental to an NSERC Alliance project that develops density models as indicators of local wetland health and large-scale environmental change. Specifically, the PDF will work with a PhD student and technical staff at partner organizations to develop high-resolution, Canada-wide models of waterbird density that stack with BAM’s existing landbird model products, with the desire to include acoustic data in those models. The PDF will also work with the PhD student to use the models as indicators of large-scale environmental change. Additional responsibilities will include leading the writing of manuscripts and representing the project at meetings from local to international, and with diverse partners.

Applicants must hold a recent PhD. Essential qualifications include strong quantitative skills coupled with an interest in waterbird ecology and conservation in general. Significant experience with species distribution modelling and/or modelling with passive acoustic monitoring is desired.
