What is it?

Data is the foundation of BAM’s success. We have worked with data partners from across North America to build a dataset with millions of bird records.

Since BAM started, it has compiled data from hundreds of avian point-count studies encompassing hundreds of thousands of surveys. We have developed methods to harmonize these disparate datasets to account for differences in survey methodologies and species detectability. This database has allowed BAM and our collaborators to answer questions about boreal birds and inform avian conservation at scales that none of us could do alone.

Bird data discovery and download is available on the WildTrax platform under the point count sensor. BAM believes that enhanced data sharing will facilitate collaborative science and accelerate avian conservation and research.

CanAvian

 
We are a founding member of the CanAvian, a network for avian data. We share a common vision that reliable and comprehensive avian data are openly available to support conservation and decision-making in Canada. While not all of the data that has been shared with us can be made publicly available, we are working with data partners to make data as accessible as possible.

Biophysical Data

Assembled, evaluated, and documented major sources of remote-sensed biophysical data for vegetation, productivity, climate, and disturbance data. This includes the Common Attribute Schema for Forest Resource Inventory data (CASFRI), which synthesized 20 corporate, provincial, territorial and federal forest resource inventories into a single harmonized database.
